To all you busy people out there, hear me out.
Two words:
Batch Cooking.
I feel like that’s all I need to say, but let me explain a bit more.
Batch cooking is all in the name; cooking in batches. Big ones. This means cooking big portions to last you one to two weeks, thus, saving you time and even money. This technique allows you to freeze or refrigerate your meals and store them in airtight containers. This includes a lot of planning, however, when done correctly, it can be a very effective way to save time and, honestly, energy. Batch cooking also spares you the planning and cooking everyday, which can frankly be a pain! Not to mention, it is a healthier and safer option and will help you avoid ordering fast food. Cooking day will definitely be time consuming and you will need to shop for a lot of food to begin, but planning will help it go smoother.
Think about how much you can save if you stop buying 10 dollar lunches everyday and instead bulk buy and prepare food for the week.
There is a distinctive difference between meal prepping and batch cooking. Meal prepping is when you cook a very large batch of 2 or 3 meals and portion them to fit each meal for every day. Batch cooking, on the other hand, provides a larger variety of foods and you are NOT preparing each meal for every day. Instead, the food is accessible and available for you to decide what you want to eat and what you want to eat it with. Both are convenient, however, batch cooking saves you from having the same meals every day.
Batch cooking does not necessarily mean that there is no preparation needed right before eating the meal, although it does speed up the process from hours to minutes or minutes to seconds. One click of the button on the microwave and your food is ready.
As mentioned, a key factor in this technique is planning. Actually, besides the cooking part, that is all there is to it. It is so important to make a list of all the meals you would like to prepare, as it will help you plan what groceries you will need. You do not necessarily need a different meal for every day, but maybe different combinations or styles. So, don’t cook chicken for one meal. Cook enough for three! and just use different ingredients to flavour it. One day, have quinoa as a side with your chicken, and the next, use it in your salad!
I also recommend you do your research and pay a visit to our dear friend, Mr. Google for some batch cooking recipes. This experience could be horrible if you do not make sure your meals are stored correctly and won’t go bad.
Nevertheless, there are several products that can help you with this process. There are tons of affordable appliances that will be worth the investment. The better the appliances, the better the process will be. Head to our Instagram for some more tips!
I can almost guarantee that once you get into batch cooking, you’ll get hooked. It is the best way to save time in the kitchen.
